Information,
access and links to
the technical
presentationsIn April 2006, a
Regional Convention
of Piano Technicians Guild
took place in
Broomfield, Colorado at
the Omni Hotel.
During this convention,
Bill
Spurlock presented an in
depth, all day class using
the hotel's piano. I can
attest to the fact that this
piano was lacking regular
maintenance as I have played
it several times for gigs
that I have had at that
hotel.
I was fortunate for having
been able to shoot about two
hours of footage from his
class.
I also attended a class
taught by
Dean Reyburn, the
inventor of the Cyber Tuner,
amazing Visual Tuning
Software that I have been
using for the past nine
years. Another class I
attended was taught by Barth
Story, chief technician at
Chris Finger Pianos, located
right here, in Niwot,
Colorado. Another video that
I think should be of great
interest to piano
technicians is a technical
presented by
Joe Woods, in a
class at his shop where you
can view the removal of a
soundboard from a Steinway
O.
The Bill Spurlock video is broken
up into seven sections. The
Reyburn video is in two
sections, The Barth Story
video in one section and the
Joe Woods video in two
sections.
All can be view on the
following page
after entering a password. The password will be made
available to members of the
Piano Technicians' Guild who
will be able to retrieve it
from the www.ptg.org site on the
following page;
If you are not a guild
member, but you are a
professional technician,
email me and I will consider
your request.
Important preliminary
information about using
videos:
If you are using Mozilla as a browser, you
may encounter the following
issue after submitting the
password to access the
online videos. After
submitting the password, the
page appears to stall and at
the bottom left of browser
window there will be a small
message that says stopped.
Click on the back arrow of
the browser and the page
should load. If you decide
to leave the online video
page and go back to it with
the same browser window and
have problems, close that
window and start a new
session with the password,
etc.
If you are using
Mozilla, do not use
hyperlink menu at the top of
the video page to access
videos. To access
videos, manually scroll down
the page.
On Internet Explorer, press
refresh on browser window
after page has loaded,
for videos to load.
If you do not do this, it
will appear as if there are
no videos.
If video stops in
the middle for no apparent
reason, it might be due to
insufficient memory on your
computer
system. My best
recommendation is to close
down all unnecessary
programs that are running on
your system including spyware
and antivirus software,
running in the background to
free up as much RAM as
possible. Sometimes,
rebooting your computer and
minimizing all background
running software and
programs from the start, as
described above can help.
Another issue is that videos
are set up for DSL. If
you have dial up service,
the page as it is currently
configured, will probably
not work for
you. Please let me know if
you have dial up service!
That way I can determine
what kind of demand there
might be for me to set up a
dial up service configured
page.
I hope this works out as the
videos are great and well
worth watching.
