What
makes pianos
Lo-Tech?
|
The modern piano, is
and example of an
amazing, and
successful, technology
and design stemming from the
industrial
revolution era in
the late 19th
century. If you look
inside any piano,
you will see the
cast iron plate, and
the struts and other
structural members
that make it 40,000
pounds plus tension
a reality, day after
day. The design of
the Tension,
Resonant Structure
of the average piano
is very similar to
that of many
bridges and
structures that we take
for granted day
after day. Though piano technology is lo tech, modern hi
tech has impacted and continues to affect the way that modern piano designers, manufacturers and
technicians are
working.
We see these changes
in the way
technicians are
tuning pianos,
weighing off
actions, calculating
and redefining our
understanding of
pianos. To
summarize, our
rapidly changing hi
technology is just
another layer that
is adding to and
benefiting a highly
successful machine,
the piano.
